My dash cam has stopped recording! Keeps on saying "Card Full"Updated 2 days ago

ROVE Dash Cam Memory Card Troubleshooting

My dash cam stopped recording and says “Card Full.”

This usually happens when Loop Recording is turned OFF. When Loop Recording is OFF, the dash cam will keep saving videos until the memory card becomes full, then recording will stop.

✅ Turn Loop Recording ON so the oldest unlocked clips can be overwritten automatically.
🔁
Loop Recording
Must be set to 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes so the camera can overwrite old unlocked clips.
🧹
Format the Card
Formatting clears the card and gives the camera a fresh file system to continue recording smoothly.
🛡️
Locked Videos
Emergency/locked clips may not be overwritten, so too many locked files can also fill the card.
What this message means

“Card Full” usually means Loop Recording is OFF

Loop Recording allows your camera to automatically delete the oldest unlocked video files when the memory card becomes full. This lets the newest videos continue saving in a seamless loop without manually deleting files.

When Loop Recording is turned OFF, the camera records longer video files and does not automatically overwrite old videos. Once the card fills up, recording stops until you delete files or format the memory card.

Step-by-step fix

Try these steps in order

Step 1
Most important setting

Turn Loop Recording ON

Go to your dash cam video settings and make sure Loop Recording is set to a time interval instead of OFF.

RECOMMENDED SETTING
Video Settings → Loop Recording → 1 min, 3 min, 5 min, or 10 min
Best option: We recommend 3 minutes for everyday driving because it keeps clips easy to review and helps loop recording work smoothly.
Step 2
Clear space

Format the memory card in the dash cam

After turning Loop Recording ON, format the memory card using the dash cam menu. This clears old files and helps the camera restart recording properly.

⚠️ Important: Formatting will delete all videos on the memory card. Save any important footage first before formatting.
Step 3
Locked files

Check for too many locked/emergency videos

Locked videos are protected from being overwritten. If too many emergency videos are locked, the card may still become full even when Loop Recording is ON.

What to do:
• Save any important locked videos to your phone or computer
• Delete unneeded locked videos
• Format the memory card after saving important footage
Step 4
Memory card health

Use a compatible high-speed microSD card

If the card continues to show errors or recording stops again, the memory card may be too slow, worn out, or failing. Dash cams constantly write video files, so memory cards wear out over time.

ROVE compatible microSD card
Recommended: Use a Class 10 / U3 microSD card. For best reliability, we recommend ROVE PRO, ROVE Ultimate, or ROVE Industrial microSD cards.
Step 5
Still not recording?

Reset the dash cam settings if needed

If the camera still stops recording after Loop Recording is ON and the card has been formatted, reset the camera settings to default and set Loop Recording again.

After reset, confirm these settings:
• Loop Recording is ON
• Memory card is formatted in the dash cam
• Date/time is correct
• Recording starts automatically when the camera receives power
Quick Summary

What usually fixes the “Card Full” message?

🔁 Turn Loop Recording ON Set Loop Recording to 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes instead of OFF.
🧹 Format the memory card Save important files first, then format the card in the dash cam menu.
🛡️ Check locked files and card health Too many locked files or a worn-out memory card can cause recording problems even after Loop Recording is enabled.
