Dash cam not playing Automatically and giving three optionsUpdated 10 hours ago

ROVE Dash Cam USB Connection Guide

Why does my dash cam say “Connect to USB,” “Connect to PC,” or “Operate Camera Normally”?

This message usually appears when the dash cam is connected with the short USB data cable instead of the long power cable. The camera thinks it may be connected to a computer or car media system.

✅ Use the 12FT power cable for in-car power. Use the short data cable only for PC/Mac file transfer.
🔌
Short cable = Data
The short USB data cable is designed for connecting the dash cam to a PC/Mac for file access.
🚗
Long cable = Power
The 12FT power cable should be used in the vehicle for normal dash cam operation.
Choose normal mode
If the screen appears, select “Operate Camera Normally” to continue recording.
What this message means

Your dash cam is detecting a data connection

If the dash cam is plugged into your vehicle's built-in USB port using the short USB data cable, the car may treat the dash cam like a USB storage device. That is why the dash cam asks whether you want to connect as a USB/PC device or operate normally.

This does not usually mean the camera is defective. It simply means the wrong cable or USB connection method is being used for normal in-car recording.

Step-by-step fix

Follow these steps to stop the USB prompt

Step 1
Check the cable

Confirm whether you are using the short USB data cable

If you are using the short USB cable that came in the box, the dash cam may think it is being connected to a PC/Mac or your vehicle's media system.

⚠️ Important: The short USB data cable is mainly for connecting the dash cam to a computer for file transfer, not for normal in-car recording.
Step 2
Use the correct cable

Use the 12FT power cable for normal in-car use

To avoid the USB/PC prompt, connect the dash cam using the 12FT power cable instead of the short USB data cable.

Recommended setup: Use the 12FT power cable with the ROVE USB car charger or a power-only USB source.
Step 3
Avoid media USB

Avoid USB ports that connect to the car's media system

Some vehicle USB ports are designed for music, CarPlay, Android Auto, or media playback. These ports may detect the dash cam as a USB storage device and trigger the connection prompt.

Best option: Power the dash cam from the ROVE USB car charger plugged into the vehicle's 12V cigarette lighter socket.
Step 4
Still happening?

Try a different power source if needed

If the message still appears after using the 12FT power cable, try powering the dash cam with the ROVE USB car charger and the vehicle's 12V outlet. This helps confirm whether the issue is caused by the vehicle's USB port.
