ROVE Dash Cam Video Quality Guide

Why is my video blurry or out of focus?

If your dash cam video looks blurry, foggy, hazy, or out of focus, the cause is usually something simple: a protective film, a dirty lens, windshield haze, low-light conditions, or a lower video resolution setting.

✅ Start with the lens and windshield first — they are the most common causes of blurry footage.
🎞️
Remove lens film
New dash cams may have a clear protective film over the lens that must be removed.
🧼
Clean glass and lens
Fingerprints, dust, windshield fog, and interior haze can make footage look soft or cloudy.
🎥
Check resolution
Lower recording resolutions will look less detailed than 4K or 2.5K settings.
Before you begin

Blurry video is usually caused by something in front of the lens

The dash cam can only record clearly if the lens and windshield are clear. Protective film, fingerprints, dust, fog, windshield residue, glare, or condensation can all make the video appear blurry even when the camera is working normally.

Follow the steps below in order. After each step, record a short test video in daylight and review the original video file.

Step-by-step fix

How to improve blurry or out-of-focus video

Step 1
Check this first

Remove the protective lens film

Many new dash cams have a clear protective plastic film over the lens. If this film is still attached, videos may look blurry, foggy, or out of focus.

Tip: Check both the front camera lens and rear camera lens if your model includes a rear camera.
Step 2
Clean lens

Clean the dash cam lens

Fingerprints, dust, residue, or smudges can affect video clarity. Gently wipe the lens using a soft, clean microfiber cloth.

⚠️ Important: Do not use harsh chemicals or rough materials on the lens. A soft microfiber cloth is best.
Step 3
Check windshield

Clean the windshield inside and outside

Fog, condensation, dust, dirt, or oily film on the windshield can make the video look hazy or soft. Clean the glass inside and outside, especially the area directly in front of the camera lens.

Best result: Test the camera again in daylight after cleaning the windshield and lens.
Step 4
Low light

Understand low-light video limits

Night driving, very dark scenes, rain, glare, or strong headlights may make the video appear grainy or less sharp. This can be normal in low-light conditions.

What may help:
• Test again during daylight
• Check if HDR is available and enabled on your model
• Avoid placing the camera behind heavy tint or dirty glass
• Adjust exposure if your model supports it
Step 5
Resolution setting

Check the video resolution setting

If the camera is set to a lower resolution, the video will look less detailed. Go to the video settings and select a higher resolution, such as 4K or 2.5K, if your model supports it.

Tip: For the clearest review, transfer the original video file to a computer and play it using a compatible video player.
