ROVE Dash Cam Power Compatibility Guide

Can I Use My Own USB Type-C to Type-C Cable to Power My ROVE Dash Cam?

Many newer vehicles now include USB Type-C ports instead of traditional USB-A ports. However, we do not recommend powering your ROVE dash cam directly with a third-party USB Type-C to Type-C cable.

✅ Recommended setup: Use the original ROVE power cable with a USB-A to USB-C adapter if your vehicle only has USB-C ports.
🔌
Use the ROVE cable
The original ROVE power cable is the safest and most compatible option for powering the dash cam.
⚡
Avoid unstable power
Some USB-C vehicle ports and third-party cables may not provide stable or compatible power output.
🔁
Use an adapter
If your car only has USB-C ports, use a USB-A to USB-C adapter with the original ROVE cable.
Why we do not recommend it

Not all USB-C ports and cables provide the same power output

USB Type-C ports can vary depending on the vehicle manufacturer, port design, cable quality, and power-delivery behavior. Some USB-C to USB-C cables or vehicle USB-C ports may not provide stable power for a dash cam.

If the power is unstable or incompatible, the dash cam may randomly restart, fail to turn on properly, or behave inconsistently.

Step 2
Add adapter

Connect it with a USB-A to USB-C adapter

If your vehicle only has USB Type-C ports, connect the original ROVE USB-A cable to a USB-A to USB-C adapter, then plug the adapter into your vehicle’s USB-C port.

Test power

Confirm the dash cam powers on normally

After connecting the adapter and original ROVE cable, start your vehicle or provide power to the USB-C port. Confirm that the dash cam turns on, stays on, and records normally without restarting.

⚠️ Important: Power output can vary by vehicle manufacturer and USB port design. Always make sure your dash cam receives the recommended power requirements for your specific model.
Quick Summary

What should I use?

✅ Recommended Use the original ROVE power cable included with your dash cam.
✅ For USB-C-only vehicles Use the original ROVE cable together with a USB-A to USB-C adapter.
⚠️ Not recommended Avoid powering the dash cam directly with a third-party USB-C to USB-C cable because compatibility and power stability may vary.
