ROVE App WiFi Connection Guide

Can I connect my dash cam to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

In most cases, you cannot use the ROVE App through dash cam WiFi and wireless Apple CarPlay or wireless Android Auto at the same time. This happens because both connections need your phone’s WiFi connection.

✅ Best option: Use wired CarPlay/Android Auto, or temporarily disconnect wireless CarPlay/Android Auto when using the ROVE App.
📶
Dash cam uses WiFi
The ROVE App connects directly to the dash cam’s WiFi network to view videos, download files, and adjust settings.
🚘
Wireless CarPlay uses WiFi too
Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto also need your phone’s WiFi connection to connect to the vehicle.
🔌
Wired is the workaround
If your car supports wired CarPlay or wired Android Auto, your phone can usually use the cable for the car and WiFi for the dash cam.
Why this happens

Your phone is trying to use WiFi for two different connections

To connect your phone to the ROVE dash cam, your phone must connect directly to the dash cam’s WiFi network. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto also require your phone to connect to your vehicle using WiFi.

Since most smartphones can only maintain one active WiFi connection at a time, the dash cam WiFi connection and wireless CarPlay/Android Auto can conflict with each other.

Connection options

What you can do instead

Option 1
Best workaround

Use wired Apple CarPlay or wired Android Auto

If your vehicle supports a wired connection, this is usually the best solution. Your phone can use the cable for CarPlay/Android Auto while connecting to the dash cam through WiFi.

Use wired Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with ROVE dash cam WiFi
Best setup: Wired CarPlay/Android Auto for your vehicle + WiFi connection for the ROVE App.
Option 2
Temporary switch

Temporarily disconnect wireless CarPlay or Android Auto

When you need to use the ROVE App, temporarily disconnect wireless Apple CarPlay or wireless Android Auto, then connect your phone directly to the dash cam’s WiFi network.

Temporarily disconnect wireless CarPlay Android Auto to use ROVE App
This allows you to use the ROVE App to:
• View live video
• Review recordings
• Download videos
• Adjust dash cam settings
Important
No internet from dash cam WiFi

The dash cam WiFi does not provide internet access

The dash cam’s WiFi is designed only for connecting your phone to the camera. It is used for live view, video playback, video downloads, and settings changes through the ROVE App.

⚠️ Important: Because the dash cam WiFi does not provide internet, some phones may automatically switch back to CarPlay, Android Auto, or cellular data when both systems try to connect at the same time.
Quick Summary

Can both work at the same time?

📶 Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto + ROVE WiFi usually cannot run together Both systems need your phone’s WiFi connection, so they can conflict.
🔌 Wired CarPlay/Android Auto is the best workaround Use the car cable for CarPlay/Android Auto and connect your phone to dash cam WiFi for the ROVE App.
📱 Temporarily switch when using the ROVE App Disconnect wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, connect to dash cam WiFi, then use the ROVE App.
